In October 2003 I was DX with colon cancer. I also have lupus and on one of my routine blood test (for lupus) it detected anemia. Therfore I had a colonoscopy to see if I had any internal bleeding. I had NO symtoms! But, this is how I foud out I had cancer. I had surgery they ended up removing the right colon, part of my bowel, my gallbladder which was one big stone, and my ovaries which were the size of a grapefruits with endometriosis. It is so surprising what can be wrong inside of you that you’re not even aware of. I had NO symptoms of colon problems. Getting this DX was a complete overwhelming shock. I decided from the very beginning that I would fight this with a positive attitude and NOT let this cancer bring me down. I have done very well with this attitude. I have not felt sorry for myself, as I am not the only one on the earth with a cancer. I came through the surgery with flying colors. I did 36 weeks straight chemotherapy drips. As far as symptoms to the chemo they can get you down, but with a positive attitude and wonderful friends I have done fine! I was 51 (at this time) and have a wonderful, supporting husband. We have 2 great son’s that are always here for us and have helped me get through this so much.
December of 2006 the cancer came back. It now was in my liver and possibly some nodes. I had surgery on Dec.11.06.
I had surgey to remove 1/3 of my liver and near by swollen lymph nodes that ended up being positve. Sooooo, I had 28 radiation treatments and I am now on oral Xelodia. The radiation got to me at the end with never ending fatigue, otherwise I did ok. The chemo is affecting my hands and feet (hand and foot syndrome). My feet can get really painful and there are so deep cracks. After I am off chemo for a week they subside. I do the Xelodia for 2 weeks straight 2 times a day, then I have one week off for a rest.
I am still very positive and do not let this cancer rule me! I fight it hard. I am now stage IV.
